Friday 9 October 2026 9th October - Map masters This week in Geography, Year 2 continued learning about maps and explored why they are useful. As a class, we designed our own imaginary town, using a map key to identify and label different areas. The children then created their own maps, using colourful drawings and symbols to represent different places. The children did a fantastic job using their creativity and map-reading skills to bring their imaginary towns to life!

Friday 2 October 2026 2nd October - The frog and the stranger! This week in Literacy, we began exploring our new book, The Frog and the Stranger. We looked carefully at the front cover and illustrations and made predictions about what we thought the story might be about. The children shared their ideas with their partners and used clues from the pictures to explain their thinking. We also began getting to know the characters, thinking about what they might look like and how they might be feeling. The children have made a fantastic start to our new book and are excited to find out what happens next!

Friday 25 September 2026 25th September - Bouncy scientists! This week in Science, Year 2 have been investigating different materials and exploring which type of ball is the best for bouncing. The children compared the materials and sizes of a range of balls and discussed how these features might affect their bounciness. They then used metre sticks to measure the height of each bounce, recording and comparing their results to find out which ball bounced the highest!

Friday 18 September 2026 18th September - Nature poems This week in Literacy, Year 2 have been exploring the beautiful picture book The Tree and the River. We used the illustrations to create exciting word banks and then used our new vocabulary, alongside words containing the suffix ‘-er', to create our own poems. The children worked hard to make their poems creative and descriptive, making this their first Big Write in Year 2!

Friday 11 September 2026 11th September - Marvellous maps! We have worked incredibly hard in Geography this week as we began learning all about maps! We started by recalling our Year 1 knowledge and sharing ideas about the different maps we have used and seen before. We explored a range of maps and identified some of their important features, as well as discussing why maps are useful.

Friday 4 September 2026 4th September - A great first week in Year 2! What an amazing first week we have had in Year 2! We have been busy getting to know one another through lots of fun games and activities, sharing our creativity through writing some funny, silly sentences and exploring our new classroom.

Friday 8 May 2026 Friday 8th May - Class assembly and seaside fun This week in Year 2 has been all about preparing for our class assembly — and what a fantastic performance it was! I am incredibly impressed with all of the children. They learnt their lines brilliantly and performed with such enthusiasm and confidence. Performing in front of an audience can be very challenging, but every child should feel extremely proud of themselves. They truly shone on stage!
