Friday 23 October 2026 23rd October - Watercolours This week we have exploring the artist Henri Rousseau. We have looked at tonal graduation and experimented with watercolours to create light and dark colours as well as using our pencils to add in different textures just like Rousseau!

Friday 16 October 2026 16th October - Reading buddies On Tuesday each week, we take a trip down to nursery to catch up with our reading buddies. Year 5 are great role models for the nursery class and have been wonderful at instilling a love of reading in them. Nursery love picking books and taking them over to their year 5 buddy!

Friday 9 October 2026 9th October - Life cycles This week in Science, we have been exploring the life cycle of a chicken. We enjoyed cracking an egg and investigating the purpose of each part. We learnt that the egg holds all the nutrients ready for a chick if the egg is fertilised.

Friday 2 October 2026 2nd October - Debating This week in RE we looked at the importance of debating. We shared arguments for and against the question of 'Do Jewish people have to follow all the ancient laws to be a part of the Jewish community?' We learnt that a key point of debating is to show respect and understanding of each sides point of view.

Friday 11 September 2026 11th September - Researching Brazil This week, our class enjoyed becoming geography researchers as we explored Brazil using our computers. We investigated both human and natural features, discovering fascinating facts about the country's landscapes, cities, rivers, rainforests and people. The children worked independently to find information, develop their research skills and share what they had learned. It was wonderful to see their curiosity and enthusiasm as they discovered more about this amazing country!

Thursday 25 June 2026 Literacy: Narrative writing This week in literacy we have started writing our stories based on the novel ‘Birdsong'.

Friday 19 June 2026 History: The Kingdom of Benin We used maps to locate where the Kingdom of the Benin was and the surrounding countries. We had to ensure that we used our maps skills learnt in Geography to help us complete this task.

Friday 12 June 2026 Science: lifecycles In science this week, we considered our environment and concluded it was mostly grassy or woodland. We identified some common amphibians and insects that live here including frogs, dragonflies, butterflies and newts.

Friday 15 May 2026 Literacy - Persuasive adverts In literacy, we have started a new unit on persuasive writing. At the end of the unit, we will present a new product that we have designed in the style of ‘dragons' den'.

Friday 12 December 2025 12th December STEM Discovery Centre On Wednesday, we went on a school trip the STEM discovery centre in Stevenage. It was a fantastic opportunity for us all to learn more about space and to further our knowledge on things we have already been taught. We did 3 different activities whilst we were there, which helped us visually see the aspects of science we had been taught.
