17th April - Flying high in Year 1!
This week in Year 1, we began our new learning in PE, focusing on Kwik Cricket. We practised throwing a tennis ball at a target, aiming carefully at the stumps. This helped us develop our accuracy and coordination. We also started to learn some new vocabulary, such as “wicket,” to help us understand the game of cricket.
In RE, we started learning about holy books, with a focus on the Bible. We discussed how the Bible is split into two main parts called testaments, and how these are further broken down into different stories. We explored the Ten Commandments and talked about how they are a set of rules that Christians try to follow in their daily lives. To help us understand this idea, we created our own version of the Ten Commandments for our class.
In History, we began our new topic about the first flight and aeroplanes. We learned about how flight has changed over time and discussed why early flight was not very safe at first. We explored how it became safer as technology improved and developed. We also ordered different forms of flight from oldest to newest, helping us understand how aviation has progressed over time.
