Friday 13th February - Mental Health Week

What a wonderfully busy week we have had in Year 2, filled with lots of learning and thoughtful discussions!
To mark Children’s Mental Health Week, we spent time talking about emotions and what it means to be a bully. We had some very mature conversations about how repeatedly being mean to someone can make that person feel very sad and upset. I was incredibly impressed with how thoughtfully the children spoke about kindness and respect. We reflected on the importance of treating others how we would like to be treated – and that is always kindly. It was such a valuable and meaningful lesson for us all.
On Tuesday, we also marked Safer Internet Day. The theme this year was “Smart Tech, Safe Choices.” We discussed voice assistants, such as Alexa, and talked about how they can be helpful, as well as what they are not useful for. The children had a great discussion about how to use voice assistants safely and responsibly, and they shared some fantastic ideas.
It has also been Art Week, and our focus has been on developing drawing skills using only pencils. The children explored a range of techniques to make their pictures look realistic. They thought carefully about which pencils to use to create different shades and effects, and they worked incredibly hard on their artwork. The final pieces look fantastic – we are very proud of them!
Finally, it was so lovely to see so many of you at Parents’ Evening this week. It was an absolute pleasure to talk about all the positive things your children are achieving.
Wishing you all a wonderful and restful half term!
