5th December - feeling festive in Year 1
Year 1 have had a wonderfully festive start to December with our annual Deco Day! The classroom was buzzing with excitement as we spent the morning making a range of Christmas crafts. The children created beautiful beaded snowflake decorations, carefully threading beads onto pipe cleaners to make sparkling ornaments. They also made handprint calendars—a lovely keepsake for the year ahead—and worked together to create colourful paper chains that now stretch across our classroom and bring a cheerful, festive feel.
The day felt even more magical as everyone came in wearing their Christmas jumpers, filling the room with bright colours, patterns, and lots of smiles. A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who came in to support the children. Your help, enthusiasm, and creativity made the morning extra special, and the children loved sharing the experience with you.
Year 1 Deco Day
In other news, Year 1 have been making fantastic progress in maths. This week we have been focusing on addition, and the children have really mastered using the + and = symbols to build accurate number sentences within 10. They have shown great confidence when using practical resources, working with partners, and even beginning to record their own number sentences independently. We are very proud of their hard work and growing mathematical thinking!
