25th September - Which Rocks Absorb water?
This week in Science, we became rock detectives! We learned about the three main types of rock: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. We also talked about what it means to observe carefully and why it is important to make a fair test when carrying out an investigation.

We learnt some important scientific vocabulary, including permeable and impermeable. We discovered that a permeable material allows water to pass through or be absorbed, while an impermeable material does not allow water to pass through easily.

Our investigation was to find out which types of rock absorb water and how quickly they absorb it. We looked closely at different rocks and made careful observations before placing them in water. We then used a timer to measure how long it took each rock to fully absorb the water.

We recorded our results in a table and compared what we had found.
