24th April - keeping healthy in Year 1!
Year 1 have had a lovely sunny week and have been working hard across all areas of their learning!
In Literacy, we have started reading Here Comes Mr Postmouse, a story about a busy postmouse who delivers letters to lots of different homes. The children have really enjoyed exploring the different houses in the story and thinking about which one they would like to visit. We have been focusing on using conjunctions such as and and because to extend our sentences, explaining our choices in more detail and sharing our ideas with the class.
In Maths, we have begun learning about numbers to 50. The children have been practising counting in 10s, using practical resources and grouping objects to help them understand how numbers are built. They have shown great enthusiasm as they count forwards in 10s—next stop 100!
In PSHE, we have been learning about how to stay healthy and safe. We discussed items around the home that are not safe for children to touch, such as bleach and sharp knives, and talked about why they can be dangerous. We also identified things that are safe to use, like toothpaste, helping the children to understand how to make safe choices at home.
It has been a fantastic, sunny week full of learning, discussion and great enthusiasm from all the children. Well done, Year 1!
