23rd January - Getting our hands dirty...

Year 1 had a great time making their own mud pies as part of our literacy learning! We spent time outside collecting our ‘ingredients’, such as stones, sticks and leaves. We then worked with a partner to make our mud pies and wrote the instructions afterwards. We really enjoyed getting our hands dirty whilst creating these instructions!
In RE, we have started learning about belonging and how people are welcomed into religious communities. We spent time talking about what the word belonging means and what it looks like in our own lives. Many of us shared that we belong to different clubs both in and outside of school, and we also talked about how we all belong in Year 1 and are part of our class community.
We then learned about how babies are welcomed into the Christian faith through baptisms or christenings. We talked about what happens during these special celebrations and why they are important to Christians. The children enjoyed sharing their own experiences and listening to each other’s stories about baptisms and christenings they have attended. This helped us understand how belonging can make people feel welcomed, special and part of a community.
