22nd May - Printing portraits
During Art Week, we explored the exciting world of printing. We learned about the life and artwork of Elizabeth Catlett, studying her prints and understanding how her work inspired others. Throughout the week, we investigated different printing techniques, including block printing and lino printing. We began by carving our own designs into potatoes and using paint to create colourful prints in our sketchbooks. Later, we used mirrors to carefully draw self-portraits onto tracing paper before transferring the outlines onto lino tiles. Using special carving tools, we etched our designs into the lino and then printed them with black paint, revealing clear and detailed prints of our faces. It was a creative and rewarding project that helped us develop new artistic skills.
