19th December - Merry Christmas!
What a festive week Year 1 have had! We concluded our learning about light in RE by focusing on the Christmas story and the importance of Jesus being the light for Christians. We discussed how Advent is a time of waiting and being patient, and that it’s about much more than just chocolate! The children shared some thoughtful ideas and really enjoyed linking their learning to the Christmas season.
To continue the Christmas celebrations, we enjoyed our Christmas lunch and Christmas Jumper Day. It was a complete success, and the children loved making their personalised placemats in preparation for the special day. Everyone looked wonderfully festive and had a fantastic time together.
Throughout the festivities this week, Year 1 have been taking part in DT Week. In this topic, we have been learning about mechanisms. We started by looking at moving parts in familiar storybooks and then experimented by making characters with moving parts. We used a wheel mechanism to change a character’s emotion and explored how pivots and sliders work.
Using this knowledge, we designed and made our own Christmas cards with moving parts. We really enjoyed throwing ourselves into this project during DT Week, which was a wonderful way to round off our festive celebrations.
As we come to the end of a busy and festive term, we would like to wish all our parents and families a very happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year. Thank you for your continued support throughout the term. We hope you enjoy a relaxing break filled with joy, laughter and special moments together. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the New Year.
