14th October - a 'toy-rrific' time!

This week, we took part in a fantastic history workshop all about toys from living memory. We also had the chance to explore some Victorian toys and compare them to the ones we play with today.

We discovered that toys in Victorian times were usually homemade and made from wood or tin – not a bit of plastic or electricity in sight! It was fascinating to see how different they were from the toys we have now.

Even though toys have changed a lot over time, we realised that some are still popular today – like skipping ropes and dolls’ houses. It was such a fun way to learn about the past and see how playtime has changed through the years!

Year 1 Toys Workshop

This week in Year 1, we have started a brand-new unit in Literacy – Poetry! To help us understand what poetry is, we revisited some well-known nursery rhymes and talked about what makes them fun to read and listen to.

We were then introduced to the poem “Purple Is…”, a lovely list poem all about purple objects. The children really enjoyed spotting patterns and thinking about how the poet used describing words.

Next week, we’re looking forward to creating our own colour list poems – we can’t wait to see what colourful ideas everyone comes up with!
