13th February - Roman Mosaics!
This week in Year 4, we became Roman artists! We have been learning about the amazing Romans and how they created beautiful mosaics to decorate their homes, especially in places like Ancient Rome and the city of Pompeii that we learnt about in PE.

First, we looked at pictures of real Roman mosaics, and other mosaic artists. We noticed that they were made from tiny pieces. These were usually small squares made from stone or glass. The Romans used them to create patterns, animals, gods, and scenes from everyday life.

Then it was our turn to create our own Roman-themed mosaics.
First, we carefully practiced our cutting techniques, focusing on the size and shape, making sure it wasn't too small. Then we moved on to cutting our coloured paper into small shapes. We made rectangles, squares, triangles
It was quite tricky to cut the pieces neatly and small enough. We had to be patient and take our time.

Next, we planned our designs. Some of us created Roman shields, flowers, some made patterns, and others designed Roman soldiers or animals. We thought carefully about our colours and patterns before sticking them down.
Finally, we glued each small piece onto our card. We had to make sure the pieces were close together, just like real Roman mosaics.
