12th December - Summarising Starbird
This week, we have been focusing on improving our summarising skills, learning how to include only the key events from a story rather than unnecessary details. We talked about how a good summary is short, clear and tells the most important parts of the story.
To help us practise, we used our “summarising fingers” in pairs to verbally retell the summary of our class story. This helped us organise our thoughts, work collaboratively and check that we were only including the main events.
We began exploring each character in our new book and after reading, we discussed the different characters in the story and the roles they play. We then wrote about these characters, using adjectives to describe what they are like and support our ideas.
