10th October - How to become friends with a Ghost!

What a fantastic week of learning we’ve had in Year 2!

📚 Literacy

We’ve started our brand new book this week: How to Make Friends with a Ghost! Don’t worry – it’s not a spooky tale, but a heartwarming and imaginative story that teaches us all about friendship. The children have loved diving into the world of ghosts and learning how to become a kind and caring friend.

In our writing lessons, we’ve been focusing on using imperative verbs (also known as bossy verbs) to give clear instructions. This will help us later in the unit when we’ll be writing our own set of instructions on how to be a lovely friend – something we’re all striving to be in Year 2!

🔬 Science

This week in Science, we’ve been exploring how different materials can change shape. The children have been testing a variety of materials to see if they can be stretched, twisted, squashed or bent.

We even played a fun game of Splat! to help us think of different objects around the classroom that could change shape. After identifying these materials, we investigated how each one responded to different actions – it was hands-on, exciting, and full of curious questions!

💬 PSHE

In our PSHE lessons, we’ve been thinking deeply about our rights and responsibilities. The children worked brilliantly to create their own posters, sharing what they believe everyone deserves (our rights) and what we can all do to help each other (our responsibilities). Their thoughtful ideas and colourful posters are now proudly displayed in our classroom.

It’s been a week full of creativity, discovery and kindness – and we can’t wait to see what next week brings! Don't forget our Harvest assembly is next Thursday (16th October). The children have been practicing their song beautifully and we can't wait to perform it for you! Have a lovely weekend all.
